Applications are invited for CEU Doctoral Scholarships for the academic year 2018-2019.  The scholarships cover tuition and medical insurance for up to three years at Central European University.Central European University is a graduate-level “crossroads” university where faculty and students from more than 100 countries come to engage in interdisciplinary education, pursue advanced scholarship, and address some of the society’s most vexing problems.Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting standardized English language test scores. Candidates whose first language is English are normally exempt from this requirement.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing a doctoral programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study all the subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship Award: The CEU Doctoral Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, health insurance and a monthly stipend of HUF 242,000 (approx. EUR 780) to assist with living costs. Economics and Business Administration PhD students receive a monthly stipend of HUF 275,000 (approx. EUR 890).

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university or institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a degree before enrollment in a CEU doctoral course of study.
  • In exceptional cases, the Department of Cognitive Science will also consider candidates who only hold a bachelor’s degree, provided it is in a discipline closely associated with cognitive science.
  • The Department of Mathematics also accepts excellent candidates with a bachelor’s degree only, if they have completed at least four years of university by the time of enrolling, and have a strong mathematical background.
  • Students enrolled in a doctoral program at CEU must not be simultaneously enrolled in other institutions of higher education, and are required, at the beginning of their studies at CEU, to sign a declaration to this effect.

Nationality: International students can apply for Doctoral Scholarships.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a master’s degree or equivalent).

English Language Requirement: The language of instruction for all master’s, doctoral and non-degree programs offered by Central European University is English. Eligibility: All candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • You hold nationality in a country outside the EU/EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
  • You have applied for admission to a full-time Master’s programme at Maastricht University which is participating in this scholarship programm

  • You meet the specific admission requirements of the UM Master’s programme to which you have applied.
  • You have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme, a primary education programme, or secondary education programme in the Netherlands. Students who completed exchange programmes in the Netherlands are welcome to apply.
  • You are not over 35 years of age on 1 September 2018.
  • You have obtained excellent results during your prior education programmes, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence. If several applicants are equally qualified, we will give preference to applicants whose academic transcript or certified letter of academic excellence demonstrate that they are among the top 5% of the 2018/19 scholarship programme applicants.

Nationality: Students from outside the EU/EEA can apply for the scholarships.
How to Apply:

Please note: only the study programmes in the list above are eligible for a UM Holland-High Potential Scholarship. You must be conditionally approved for admission to your study programme at UM in order to be awarded a Scholarship. If your study programme requires the payment of a handling fee as part of your programme’s admissions procedure, UM Scholarships do not cover handling fees. You are responsible for paying any handling fee your programme may require by 1 February 2018.   • Curriculum vitae. Your CV should be up-to-date, contain relevant information about your education and (job) experience, and should not be longer 2 A4 pages.

The Hans Böckler Foundation is now accepting applications for a PhD scholarship to promote research and studies. The HSB awards scholarships to doctoral students with outstanding academic gifts who show commitment to labor unions or socio-political issues.The Hans Böckler Foundation is the DGB’s co-determination, research and study promotion program. It is committed in all its fields of co-determination as a design principle of a democratic society. It promotes this idea, supports mandate holders in co-determination functions and advocates extended co-determination rights.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation) is one of Europe’s largest foundations and promotes innovative and exemplary environmental projects.

 Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) is awarding Fiosraigh scholarship for students who wish to pursue a PhD on a Full Time basis. Fiosraigh Scholarship is open for students of any higher education institution, in Ireland or internationally.

Successful candidates will be known as a Dublin Institute of Technology Fiosraigh Scholar, and will be paid a stipend of €16,000 and €2,000 project costs, for each of the four years.

Over 125 years, Dublin Institute of Technology pioneered technological higher education: the Institute’s alumni play important roles in technical and scientific innovation, economic and social development and culture and education both in Ireland and internationally.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for students who wish to pursue a PhD on a full time basis.

Study Subject(s): Applicants should develop their research in liaison with the potential supervisor/supervisory team in one of the following research thematic areas: Environment, Energy and Health, Information, Communications and Media Technologies, New Materials and Devices and Society, Culture and Enterprise.

Scholarship Award: Successful candidates will be known as a Dublin Institute of Technology Fiosraigh Scholar, and will be paid a stipend of €16,000 and €2,000 project costs, for each of the four years. Project costs will include eligible direct research support expenses to enable the Scholar to carry out the research project, including essential research supplies such as small consumables; books and journals; pay as you go access to national research infrastructure; software and hardware critical for the research – to be obtained in the first year of the award; archival research costs; conference travel and participation; generic and/or specialist disciplinary skills training; publishing and write-up costs. Only vouched expenses incurred in actually carrying out the research project will be funded.

Number of award(s): There will be a maximum of 8 awards.

Scholarship can be taken in Ireland

Eligibility: Candidates must have obtained a primary degree classification equivalent to Upper Second Class Honours (2.1) or higher, from an approved University or an approved equivalent degree-awarding body, or have an approved equivalent professional qualification in an area cognate to the proposed research topic. An applicant, whose native language is not English, must also display an adequate proficiency in the English language. The minimum level required is 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System or equivalent for the overall average score and a score not lower than 5.5 in each category.

Nationality: Irish and international students are eligible to apply.

The Science Mathematics Foundation of Paris is delighted to offer Math in Paris Fellowships to pursue master degree programme. The fellowship is available to foreign nationals.The selected prize winners thus integrate the masters of mathematical sciences or theoretical computer science of the universities of the network of the FSMP. They benefit from a range of teaching methods unique in the world, based on all the skills of the Paris research laboratories in mathematical sciences.

The Paris Mathematical Sciences Foundation (FSMP) is a thematic network for advanced research in mathematics and theoretical computer science in Paris, founded by the CNRS, the ENS, the Pierre and Marie Curie University, the University Paris-Diderot and 4 Chairs of Mathematics of the Collège de France. The partners are Inria, the universities Paris-Dauphine, Paris-Descartes, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris-Nord, and IdEx PSL (teams of the Ecole des Mines, Observatoire de Paris and EHESS).

Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue Master degree programme.

Scholarship Award: The winners will receive a scholarship in the amount of 1100 € / month maximum: 600 / month + a flat-rate supplement of 500 € for housing assistance only on presentation of proof).

The Science Mathematics Foundation of Paris also pays their social security cover to the student scheme and their university registration fees.
For students of foreign nationality, the Foundation reserves a room at the CROUS de Paris and reimburses them the price of a return ticket per year from their country of origin to Paris (on the basis of an economic rate only)

The winners selected for an M2 benefit from 10 months of scholarship or 12 months if they pursue doctoral studies in France.
The winners selected for an M1 receive a scholarship of 12 months in the first year and 10 months or 12 months in the second year if they pursue a doctorate in France.

For example, in the case of current calls for tenders (beginning of the academic year 2018-2019), only candidates born after September 1, 1991 are eligible to receive an M2 grant ( or 1 September 1992 for a two-year scholarship: M1 + M2).

Nationality: International applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

German, US and UK students are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.The key goals of the Alfa Fellowship Program are expanding networks of American, British, and German professionals in Russia, developing greater intercultural understanding and advancing knowledge of Russia in the West.

Candidates should ideally have a graduate degree in business, economics, journalism, law, public policy, or a related field.

Course Level: The Alfa Fellowship Program is designed to address this problem by providing a new and exciting opportunity for young professionals from the U.S., U.K., and Germany to live and work in Russia and to enable them to develop a genuine expertise through individualized professional assignments.

Scholarship Award: The Alfa Fellowship Program includes the following provisions:

  • Round-trip transportation to New York City, London or Berlin and accommodation (if needed) for selection interviews
  • U.S./U.K./Germany-based language training as required based on proficiency evaluation
  • Orientation seminar in Washington, D.C., including speakers, activities, travel, and accommodation
  • Program-related transportation between U.S./U.K./Germany and Russia

Additionally, the applicant must be proficient in a second language to qualify for the program.* Where the Russian writing sample is required in the application, applicants who do not speak Russian should upload a statement in English detailing other languages in which they are proficient and where and when those language skills were acquired. Statements in languages other than English or Russian will not be reviewed.

*German candidates must be proficient in English to be considered for the program. Should a German candidate not be proficient in Russian, English suffices as the second language.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • This call is aimed at innovative individuals in the early stages of their research career either in academia or industry, including but not limited to: experienced postdoctoral researchers, those with a junior academic post or researchers currently in the industry who would wish to transition to academia. We would not typically expect applicants to qualify as an early career researcher if they hold a senior position.
  • Applicants are expected to hold a PhD by the start date of the fellowship or have equivalent experience. There are no eligibility rules based on years of postdoctoral experience or whether the applicant holds a permanent academic position.
  • Consideration will be given to applicants who have taken a non-standard career path after their primary degree. Proposals are also welcomed from candidates who wish to re-establish themselves after a career break or other period of absence from active research.
  • If applicants are employed part-time then they can apply for the Fellowship to be held part-time and extend pro-rata at the time of application.
  • There are no nationality restrictions imposed by EPSRC although the fellowship should be held at an eligible UK Higher Education Institution or eligible UK Independent Research Organisation. An intention of this programme is to attract global talent to the UK, so proposals from non-UK nationals are encouraged.
    EPSRC Early Career Fellows are eligible for a Tier 1 Exceptional Promise visa route which offers an accelerated visa route.
  • You may only submit a full proposal for one EPSRC fellowship in any 12 month period so please consider carefully when you choose to submit your proposal. If you are rejected at the outline stage then you will still be eligible to apply for another EPSRC fellowship.
