European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) is pleased to offer ERCIM Alain Bensoussan Fellowship Programme to students of high academic ability for 2017 entry. Students of all over the world are eligible to apply for these fellowships.The European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) fellowship aims to assist international students who require financial assistance with fellowships specifically for international students.

ERCIM – the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics – aims to foster collaborative work within the European research community and to increase co-operation with European industry. Leading European research institutes are members of ERCIM.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must have obtained a Ph.D. degree during the last 8 years (prior to the application deadline) or be in the last year of the thesis work with an outstanding academic record. Course Level: This is a 12 months fellowship programme.

Scholarship Award: The fellows are appointed for 12 months either by a stipend (an agreement for a research training programme) or a working contract. The type of contract and the monthly allowance (for stipends) or salary (for working contracts) depends on the hosting institute. It should be noted that the stipend (Fellowship Agreement) does not constitute a contract of employment. As such, no contributions are made, on behalf of the fellow, in respect of unemployment insurance or either state or private retirement schemes. The fellow will not, therefore, be entitled to any unemployment or retirement benefits under the Fellowship Agreement. For the entire period of 12 months, the fellow will receive a monthly allowance or salary (depending on the type of contract) which may vary depending on the country. Costs for travelling to and from the institutes will be paid under conditions determined by the contract. This allowance/salary will be transferred to the fellow’s personal bank account.

  • For stipends, the fellow is covered by a personal health insurance provided by Campus France the cost of which is paid by ERCIM-EEIG. The insurance covers medical transportation costs if needed, payment of a lump sum for invalidity or death, personal liability. Female fellows are informed that expenses related to pregnancy can be covered by this insurance under certain limited circumstances. The insurance does not cover the fellow’s family. The fellow will have to conform strictly to the modalities required by Campus France to obtain the benefit of this insurance.
  • Costs for travelling to and from the host institutions will be reimbursed on the basis of an economic class airplane ticket or first class train ticket. Travel by car will be reimbursed on the basis of a first class train ticket. No moving expenses are allocated. The limit is 500 euros per trip (2 trips can be planned).
  • Research Exchange Programme: Fellows have to spend at least a one-week visit to another ERCIM member institute. ERCIM-EEIG will cover reasonable expenses (including but not limited: travel, accommodation, meal) up to a maximum amount calculated on the basis of 100 euros per month over the fellowship period.
  • Participation in scientific conferences: The Fellow is encouraged to attend and to submit papers to scientific conferences during his or her fellowship. ERCIM-EEIG will cover registration costs and travelling expenses up to a maximum sum calculated at a rate of 100 euros per month under the condition that the fellow has an accepted paper at the conference.

Eligibility: Applicants must have:

  • Have obtained a Ph.D. degree during the last 8 years (prior to the application deadline) or be in the last year of the thesis work with an outstanding academic record

The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is offering scholarships for applicants who wish to apply BMS doctoral programme.The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is a joint graduate school of the mathematics departments of the three major Berlin universities, TU Berlin, FU Berlin, and HU Berlin.

While the salary of the fellows is determined by the NHFP, benefits such as retirement, family leave, etc., depending on the rules of the host institution and whether the fellow is considered an employee or independent (stipendiary) fellow by the host institution. Prospective fellows are strongly encouraged to investigate the policies at potential host institutions before listing them on their application, as changes after acceptance can be difficult, and even impossible as host institutions reach their quota of fellows.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Applicants must have received a PhD or equivalent doctoral-level research degree in astronomy, physics, or a related discipline. The date of the PhD award should be on or after January 1, 2015. Applicants with earlier PhD award dates may be eligible in exceptional cases (see below). Graduate-student awardees who have not yet received their doctoral degree at the time of application must present evidence of having completed all requirements for the degree before commencing their fellowships.
  • Eligibility may extend to those who received their PhD as early as January 1, 2014, if professional work was necessarily delayed by personal or family considerations. Such extended eligibility must be justified by emailing nhfp-at-stsci.edu, at least 2 weeks in advance of the application deadline.
  • NHFP Fellowships are open to English-speaking citizens of all nations. Qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, creed, colour, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability, or national origin. Women and members of minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Nationality: Non-US applicants are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have received a PhD or equivalent doctoral-level research degree in astronomy, physics, or a related discipline.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

  • List of publications
  • Summary of previous and current research (limited to 3 pages total, including references)
  • Research proposal, described below (limited to 3 pages text plus up to 2 pages of references/figures)
